Our funds support the non-profit Eden Reforestation Projects as they continue to reforest the island. Eden are world leaders in responsible reforestation, having already planted 265 million trees and created 2.6 million work days for local communities.

This project employs 15 full time nursery workers to plant and grow the seedlings, and 30 full time planters from the local village. Through reforestation, we can help provide long term financial stability and economic growth over time.

By employing local villagers to plant native tree species, we will also protect the remaining primary forest in the Reserve’s core zone. This project will employ at least 20 full-time planters and 1 full-time site manager.

Unfortunately, due to neglect and poor farming, the land has become barren but with the help of projects like this the land is starting to take a turn towards a much more healthy state.

The project offers a great deal in terms of biodiversity. A detailed wildlife assessment was done during the project’s inception, and the project is known to be host to eight endangered mammal species and numerous endangered birds and plant species. A total of 158 tree species were surveyed in the project’s bounds.

Currently, rural India largely relies on coal power plants, which not only emit CO2 but also contaminate local water sources and cause long term health issues for employees. Projects like this will help support a quicker transition to a greener energy source. On top of this, the installation of wind turbines create well paid jobs, energy for cheaper, more stable energy prices and quick access to clean water.
