In April 2022, Ignition partnered with Martin House, a hospice offering care for children and young people with life-limiting illnesses. Not only is establishing partnerships with charities a vital income stream for them, it’s a way to increase awareness of the vital work they do – and in the case of Martin House, the care and support they offer to families across Yorkshire. From running educational workshops, hosting raffles and fundraisers, to volunteering for Martin House directly – we’re honoured to have partnered with such a worthwhile charity.
Who are Martin House?
Martin House are one of only three centres for excellence in children’s palliative care in the UK, and their care team offer their expertise to health workers both nationally and across the globe. This includes respite breaks, community care, symptom control, end of life care and bereavement support for children and their families. The hospice has a committed team of nurses, consultants and therapists who provide round-the-clock care, as well as over 320 volunteers who provide a range of services, whether that’s tending to the grounds or performing administrative duties. Every member of Martin House is a vital cog in the wheel, offering essential medical and emotional support to 500+ families across Yorkshire.
On top of in-house treatment, families can enjoy respite breaks in the form of day trips, pet therapy, and art and musical workshops. With a dedicated community team providing support for children in their own homes, the far-reaching dedication of Martin House cannot be understated.
Our partnership and fundraising efforts help them continue to provide this specialist care and allow them to be there when families need them most.
Martin House’s biggest project yet
Ignition’s partnership coincides with Martin House’s biggest capital project since first opening their doors in 1987. After three decades, the growing number of babies, children and young people they care for has increased tenfold. They require increasingly complex nursing requirements and larger equipment that must be with them at all times. As such, Martin House needs to adapt and rebuild the hospice so they can continue to offer the best possible care.
With the project costing approximately £19.4m, this is a pivotal time for the hospice. This is on top of the £9m they need each year to fund their services, so the support of businesses like Ignition has never been so important.
Working at Ignition: annual volunteering day
As part of the company’s volunteering policy, every member of the Ignition group is offered one day of paid leave a year to go out into their local community and give back. So, whether that’s spending a day at Martin House, volunteering at one of their 13 charity shops, or spending it with another charity entirely, we’re honoured to be able to offer this opportunity.
